Join us for Learn to Be in Nature, an engaging, family-friendly event designed to help newcomers of all ages feel more confident exploring the outdoors in Northwest BC.

This interactive afternoon will feature a series of learning stations where participants can pick up essential outdoor skills, safety tips, and nature know-how. From understanding wildlife safety and using bear spray to choosing the right gear and navigating trails, each station will be hosted by local clubs, community partners, and well-known outdoor organizations.

If you’re new to camping, unfamiliar with the local environment, or looking for some outdoor skills, this event is a great way to connect with others, enjoy time in nature, and learn how to recreate safely and responsibly.

All participants will receive free bus transportation and a picnic dinner. Space is limited, so be sure to register early!

This event is brought to you in partnership with Terrace Public Library, Skeena Diversity Society, BC Parks and SkeenaWild, and with support from local collaborators including The City of Terrace, Conservation Office Service, Lakelse Lake Park Operators, Unbound gear & Apparel, Terrace Search and Rescue, and Lakelse Lake Watershed Stewards Society.

Northwest Stories – Soma Sundaram

Soma Sundaram moved to Terrace from Ottawa nearly four years ago, and he speaks about the community with the kind of certainty that only comes from feeling truly settled. Originally from India, Soma came to Canada in 2019 to pursue a master’s degree after completing his bachelor’s in electronics and communications engineering. He studied at Carleton University in Ottawa, then stayed in the city to work for over a year.
